Not a good stand alone sauce, Use as a base - Valeria - Georgia, USA
Well, I was pleased with the 'creamy' salad dressing so decided to try the entree sauces. This afternoon I tried the Marinara Sauce.

Firstly the color is not as red as you'd expect but kinda a brownish red. but looks aren't everything right?

I should've known better but I tasted it right from the bottle. I expected it to not be perfect but to have at least the flavor. It was not as good as expected and I had low expectations already. Consistency was not the issue this time, as marinara is not thick. but first thing I noticed was a chalky sort of taste. I rechecked the ingredients and there are no starches, yet there it was, a dry kinda mouthfeel that you don't even have with raw tomato paste(which is gross btw )

Anyway I took another taste and marveled at it's lack of remarkable seasoning. See the reason why I gave thumbs up to the ranch and bleu cheese dressing was because while the consistency was off the FLAVORS were SPOT ON. I could imagine that it was a blue cheese dressing just runny. This marinara had hardly any flavor that would make me go Mmmm. Not garlicy, Not oniony, Not roasted, Not italiany, Not fresh, Not anything I'd associate with the flavor of marinara.

I didn't even try to use it on it's own as I've found that these product more often make good starts but not good stand alones. I have to say a can of Hunts Fire Roasted Tomatoes, a package of cherry tomatoes and some garlic/onion pwder, itallian spices and black pepper does a much better job of being tasty than this product. I used all of the former ingredients with the 1/4 cup of sauce and cooked my chunks of chicken in it, and half serving of shiritaki.

One benefit I see it having is that canned tomatoes and fresh tomatoes are kinda watery, and the sauce made the wateriness more saucy instead. But don't expect it to add much in the way of flavor. Get thee to the spice rack!
